okay well here’s what I am thinking - I really need my person to be decorated in a fashion that will assist in the realization of my impending spiritual/emotional catharsis and revelation

Which is what I’ve been doing all day today for an overnight school trip.
- from 6:30-7:00 AM I made them listen to a combination of Dusty Springfield and Come On Feel the Illinoise. Some of the kids actually liked Suf and now when they request him, they ask me to play “the guy who wrote the song about the serial killer.”
- somewhat unusual musical request: Nirvana, by a 13-year-old female student
- Slayer made everyone sleepy? (including me)
- “Chad, your back has, like, no hair!”
In honor of Earth Day…
Erin: Those Venus lyrics…OMG. I am glad you sent me that because I was about to watch a webinar about marketing and social media.
Chad: It’s like, Sufjan, your song about Venus is just a story about touching another person at Methodist summer camp? AND INCLUDES THE WORD HORNY?????
Erin: Okay, so instead of the webinar I will listen to Venus and see if the lyrics are right.
on the youtube video:
“Nico Muhly, and Bryce Dessner wrote a song cycle based on the 12 planets”
wait, how many planets are there?
(later)
the song actually has the word horny in it.
I’m kind of disappointed.
Also ‘sensitive thunderclap’ what a phrase.
Also Aphrogenia is a genus of the Aphroditidae family? Which are these cute guys:http://eol.org/pages/90/entries/34397498/overview
The song also references this sculpture: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Venus_Callipyge
And a pandero is a tambourine…

Just in case the song made any sense to your before - NOW IT DOES NOT
Pluto is interesting because it’s fixed on its moon, Charon. And they rotate around each other, constantly staring at each other affectionately. Which is kind of a beautiful metaphor, but I think that’s one of the reasons why it was demoted—because now I think to be a proper planet you have to command the authority of others. And because the moon and Pluto are sort of existentially attached as equals, then neither of them can be considered a planet….[pause] Sad but true.

Pittsfield - Sufjan Stevens
This is a beautiful song - corrections welcome :)“All that I’ve known to be of life
And I am gentle
You ran off with it all
And I am faithful
All that I have held within my arms
And I am weightless
You ran off with it all
And I am speechless
All that I‘ve said to get it right
And I am confident
You ran off with it all
And I am steadfast
All that I thought to be precise
And I am consequence
You ran off with it all
And I am sorry
And I am sorry
All that I’ve known to be at peace
And I am desperate
You ran off with it all
And I am restless
All that I’ve known to be of love
And I am gentle
You ran off with it all
And I am desperate
All that I dreamed
Where do you run, where do you run to
And I am evidence
All that I dreamed
Where do you run, where do you run to
And I am faithless
All that I dreamed
Where do you run, where do you run to
And I am messed up
All that I dreamed
Where do you run, where do you run to
Mercurial friends
Where do you run?”
